digestion

home

Digestion can be divided into mouth & esophagus, the stomach, the small intestine including the gallbladder and pancreatic digestive functions and the large intestine. If we understand each of the parts then we can get a better understanding of the whole. There are two very important facts that I will not address on this page. The skin is a direct reflection of the digestive function and intestine. The majority of lymphatic tissue in the body surrounds the intestine. So the skin and the immune system are critically dependent on digestive and intestinal functions. I will refer the reader to Wikapedia for the structure and function of all the digestive organs.

The most common chronic problems in the mouth that decrease digestive abilities are teeth disorders or the lack of, temporal mandibular joint dysfunction, salivary gland dysfunction and esophageal dysfunction. If any of these problems are occurring, they need to be addressed before completely assessing further digestive functions.
