chronic fatigue

home

Let's begin this discussion with, "How do I get fatigued?" Let me count the ways. As many ways as there are to fall in love. Fatigue is just a symptom as in "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome." So if you are going to explore why you are fatigued, you might start by asking yourself if there is an obvious reason for it. Fifty percent of the time you will find that improper diet, lack of excercise, lack of sleep and too much worry will be the culprits. Of course, these are major things to try to overcome and change in your life. If we start off with nutrition, we can ask are we eating at least two good sit down meals a day and is the food high quality? Are you

eating to late at night? Are you drinking water, tea, or vegetable juice as your main liquids? Are you getting twenty minutes of aerobic excercise at least three times per week? Do you have a good stretching program? Do you sleep through the night and wake refreshed? Do you like your occupation, employer, fellow workers? Are things good at home? etc. etc. etc. etc. So you see, the simplest things in life can and do make a very big difference in your state of being. Speaking of which, are you spiritually satisfied or at least on a good path towards that goal?

If all the lifestyle issues are in check and you still have severe fatigue, then we do have a problem. The following are just some causes for chronic fatigue over and above the lifestyle issues discussed above. Chronic pain, chronic sinus infections, inner ear disorders, allergies, cancer, low thyroid function, low adrenal function, liver disease, mal digestion (what you put in isn't always getting absorbed), high constant electric or electro-magnetic waves, radon exposure, viral infections, tick borne disease, heavy metal toxicity, pesticide exposures, glucose abnormalities, blood dyscrasias(such as anemias), low reproductive hormone levels & parasites. The list goes on and on, but you get the idea.

A good way to start to figure out what the cause might be is to ask yourself when you were last feeling great. You can begin to track down the problem from there. Did a big industrial plant move to town? Did you move into a house with mold? Was there a major physical or emotional trauma? Do you live nearby agricultural sprays? Are there large electro-magnetic currents being generated close by? Have you had poor eating habits for so many years your metabolism or glucose balances are off? You have to be a medical detective of sorts and try to pin point just when your energy level starting going down. Not everyone has a clear cut reason but if you are one of the lucky ones than finding the cause should be less problematic. Just try to figure out what was happening within a year or so before the energy decline.

If you cannot determine any cause then a good systems review will be in order. Go through your body, system by system and see where the main problem lies. Again, you may not find one system that is affected more than another, but it is worth looking for. Which body system started faltering first, second, etc.

Information obtained from the history and the body system check will help determine what lab testing is neccessary, if any. Once all your information is gathered, a consultation with a reputable and holistic physician would be in order. There are just too many tests that might be needed for you to sift through without a consultation. A physician with experience usually can see more when doing a physical than just how the separate systems are functioning. I will list some tests below just to give you an idea of what choices you have.

CBC w/ diff; Chem screen; Liver function study; Estradiol, progesterone, free and total testosterone, DHEA-S; sex hormone binding globulin, chronic Ebstein-Barr virus & Cytomegaly virus panels, urine heavy metal toxicity w/ chelation challenge; lyme's urine antigen test; hemaglobinA1C; free & total T4 and T3, thyroid antibody and TPO; cortisol, IGF-1 and IGFBP-3; complete digestive stool analysis(CDSA) with parasite x3. And the list goes on.....

The big picture is this- before doing anything else, unless of course you are having an emergency, please change your lifestyle as discussed above.

Please get a consult, or even an second, before spending money on supplements or medications that might further hurt you.
